Tech heads to Duke for ACC opener Sunday afternoon

BLACKSBURG – The No. 17 Virginia Tech lacrosse team is set to play at No. 12 Duke on Sunday, February 21 in the ACC opener for both teams. First draw is at 1 p.m. and the game will be a linear production on ACC Network.
 
The Hokies got off to a winning start in 2021 with a 13-5 victory at Liberty last week. Sarah Lubnow scored five points to lead the attack and Angie Benson secured eight saves in goal. The defense forced 34 Flame turnovers and held Liberty to just 61% on the clear.
 
Midfielder Caroline Allen scored the 100th goal of her collegiate career, tallying two against Liberty. 
 
Tech was scheduled to face No. 10 JMU at home on Wednesday, but the game was postponed due a COVID-19 complications within the Dukes' program.

In the season-opener, nine different players scored a point with eight unique goal scorers; Lubnow (3), Paige Petty (2), Allen (2), Grace Nelson (2), Emma Crooks (1), Sara Goodwin (1), Jacelyn Lazore (1) and Maddie Hoffman (1). Freshman Sophie Student added an assist in her collegiate debut and also had three draw controls, a ground ball and one caused turnover.
