Challenging field awaits Hokies in Kiawah

BLACKSBURG — Fresh off a tie for fifth place in its season opener, the Virginia Tech women's golf team is set to compete, Sunday-Monday, in one of the strongest fields the young 2021 season has to offer.

In all, five teams enter the Palmetto Spring Intercollegiate ranked in Golfstat's Top-50 team rankings – including the Hokies, who check-in at No. 19 (a program-best). Defending national champion Duke is also in the field, but is not ranked since this will be its first tourney of the season. The College of Charleston will host the 11-team field at Kiawah Island Resort's Turtle Point Golf Course (par 72, 6,021 yards).

On top of Tech and Duke, Virginia (No. 5), Wake Forest (No. 7), Clemson (No. 37), North Carolina (No. 41) and NC State (No. 77) round out the ACC programs participating this weekend.

Becca DiNunzio, who fired a career-best, 4-under 212 to open her sophomore campaign, will look to once again lead the Hokie contingent. She enters the tournament 18th in Golfstat's individual rankings.

Emily Mahar, ranked 78th by Golfstat, tied for 15th in Tech's season opener with a 2-over 218. She will tee-off second for the Hokies. Alyssa Montgomery, Keerattriya Foocharoen and Jessica Spicer complete Tech's lineup for the second straight tournament.

Sunday's opening round is scheduled to begin with tee times at 8 a.m. ET. The second round will begin immediately following the conclusion of round one. Tee times for Monday's final round are set to begin at 8 a.m. ET.
