Hokies set to open 2021 ACC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – No. 14/15 Virginia Tech is set to open the 2021 Women's Swimming and Men's & Women's Diving ACC Championships, beginning Wednesday, Feb. 17. Diving will start at 11 a.m. with preliminaries while swimming will get started at 5:15 p.m. with the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay.

THE HOKIES
The Hokies have young talent with two freshmen coming into the 2021 ACC Championships holding several top-5 ACC times this season. Both members of the 2021 Junior National Team, Chase Travis and Emma Atkinson have made big headway in their first season with the Hokies.
 
Travis holds the third best time in the ACC in the 1000 free (9:44.53), which she set at the UNC Janice Hape Dowd Invitational. She also holds the fourth best time in both the 500 free (4:44.55) and the 1650 free (16.09.30). Travis holds top 5-program times in all three of the events as well.
 
Atkinson's top time in the 200 backstroke this season is 1:52.71, which broke the school record and sits at fourth in the ACC. She also holds the second fastest time in school history along with the fifth best time in the ACC in 100 backstroke at 52.03.
 
Senior Reka Gyorgy holds the third best 400 IM time in the ACC at 4:08.34. Gyorgy won the 400 IM in the 2017 and 2018 ACC Championships her freshman and sophomore year. She also holds the fifth best time in the 500 free behind her teammate Travis with a time of 4:45.26.

The Hokies also hold the third best ACC time in the 200 free relay (1:29.36) and the fourth best time in both the 400 free relay (3:16.50) and the 400 medley relay (3:33.91). 
 
TECH DIVING
Junior Noah Zawadzki has swept every competition this season placing first in both the 1M and 3M against Duke, Virginia, NC State and at the Virginia Tech Invite. As a sophomore, Zawadzki placed third in the 1M at the 2020 ACC Championships with a score of 337.50. 

Teagan Moravek swept the 1M and 3M against NC State in addition to two other first place finishes in the 1M at the Virginia Tech Invitational and against Virginia. Moravek took second against Duke in both events. As a sophomore, Moravek got fifth in the 1M at the 2020 ACC Championships.

THE FIELD
Virginia enters the week ranked second in the most recent CSCAA TYR Top-25. Additionally, the Wahoos are the defending ACC Champions. NC State is ranked 11th, Louisville at 12th, North Carolina at 13th and Notre Dame at 14th. Duke rounds out the rankings at 24th.
