BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team earned its second win of the season by defeating Xavier, 5-2, on Sunday.
The Hokies (2-3) started strong, winning Courts 1 and 2 in convincing fashion. Seniors Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin earned a 6-2 win, while freshman Katie Andreini and sophomore Erika Cheng downed their opponent, 6-1.
Freshman Tamara Barad Itzhaki kept the momentum going for Tech, earning a win on Court 2, 6-3, 6-4. Cheng found herself in the hole in both sets on Court 6, but battled back both times to earn a 6-3, 7-5 victory.
Andreini clinched the result for Hokies in a thrilling match on Court 5, with both sets coming down to a tiebreak. Sorkin wrapped up a successful day for Tech, battling back from a 4-1 deficit in the third set to win 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.
