Hokies fall to Furman

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team fell 4-1 to Furman on Saturday.

The Hokies (1-3) were involved in a tough battle for the doubles point, in which freshman Katie Andreini and sophomore Erika Cheng downed Furman's (5-4) Schoppe and Baykan. Tech's No. 58 duo of Elizabet Danailova and Nika Kozar exchanged blows with No. 27 Kozarov and Adams, ultimately falling 6-4.

In singles, Tamara Barad-Itzhaki battled back from a first set deficit to win a tiebreak, then pulled away in the second set to down Madison Dillon, 7-6, 6-0. Freshman Sabina Richtrova showed promise as she mounted a comeback in the second set, once trailing 5-2, to force a third set. She ultimately dropped the match to Maggie Pate.

Senior Nina Sorkin and Andreini both found themselves splitting sets with their opponents before the duel was eventually called.

The Hokies will take the court again tomorrow at noon against Xavier.
