Spicer ties for fourth at Carolinas Young Amateur

BLACKSBURG, Va.
 – Jessica Spicer paced a quartet of Virginia Tech women's golfers competing in a pair of tournaments to open 2021.
 
Jessica, along with her twin sister Sarah Spicer, were in Pinehurst, N.C., for the Carolinas Young Amateur, Jan. 4-5. The two-day event was held at Pinewild Country Club's Magnolia Course.
 
Jessica tied for fourth in the field of 24 golfers at 4-over-par 148 (73-75). Sarah locked up 11th place at 156 (79-77).
 
Furman's Anna Morgan defeated her college teammate, Sophia Burnett, on the first playoff hole to claim the title. The Paladin duo shot a 1-under-par 143 to force the playoff.
 
Meanwhile in Florida, Becca DiNunzio and Alyssa Montgomery competed in the Orlando International Amateur at Orange County National – Panther Lake Course.
 
DiNunzio was steady through her three rounds, firing a 6-over-par 222 (74-74-74) to tie for 29th. Montgomery fell one stroke shy of making the cut, logging rounds of 75 and 76 for a 36-hole ledger of 151.

Latanna Stone of LSU led wire-to-wire in claiming her first win of the new year. Her 5-under-par 211 (65-73-73) was one shot ahead of Virginia's Haeley Wotnosky.
