BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech wrestling's Bryce Andonian rose seven places in the InterMat 149-pound rankings from No. 20 to No. 13 after pulling off a top-10 upset over the weekend.
Matched up against then-ninth-ranked 149-pounder Josh Heil in the dual against Campbell, Andonian prevailed in a 12-9 decision. The win vaulted the sophomore seven spots, the largest jump of any wrestler at 149 pounds.
The Hokies have five more wrestlers featured in InterMat's rankings, including No. 1 165-pounder Mekhi Lewis and No. 2 Hunter Bolen in 184 pounds. Both wrestlers held their rankings from the preseason after victories over the weekend.
Returning to the mat after missing 2019-20 due to injury, Tech's 133-pound starter Korbin Myers moved up one spot after a 4-1 decision win Saturday, jumping from No. 10 to No. 9. John Borst also moved up one spot in the heavyweight rankings to No. 16, while redshirt freshman Sam Latona held steady in the 125-pound rankings at No. 18.
The Hokies, fresh off their season-opening 28-6 dual victory over the Fighting Camels, remained the eighth-ranked team in the country in the NWCA Coaches Poll released Tuesday.
