Hokies fall in season opener


BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's tennis team fell 5-2 to Charlotte at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Hokies dropped the doubles points to the 49ers.
 
Senior Nina Sorkin offered some inspiration for the Hokies on Court 5, winning in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
 
On Court 6, freshman Katie Andreini battled through a fiercely contested first set then finished strong in the second set to grab a 7-6(7), 6-1 win.
 
Fellow freshmen Sabina Richtrova and Tamara Barad Itzhaki put up strong performances on their respective courts, but fell in three sets.
 
The Hokies will be back on the court Saturday, Feb. 6 for a 10 a.m. match against VCU at home.
