BLACKSBURG-- The Virginia Tech men's tennis team began its 2021 campaign in Chapel Hill, N.C. at the ACC Challenge.
DAY 3
Tech wrapped up its weekend at the ACC Challenge with doubles and singles action on Monday morning.
Jordan Chrysostom and Alex Ribeiro started the day off strong for the Hokies, as they downed the No. 46 doubles pair of Michael Heller and Luca Keist, 6-4. Ryan Kros and Hugo Maia kept the success they found on Saturday rolling with a 6-4 victory over Garrett Johns and Faris Khan.
Virginia Tech continued to get in some needed reps on the singles front and pushed several matches to three sets. Carlo Donato came back decisively after dropping a first set tiebreak to defeat Johns, 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4.
DAY 2
The Hokies found success in singles competition against a pair of foes from North Carolina. Freshman Hugo Maia carried momentum from his doubles win yesterday and convincingly defeated Mark Dillon, 6-2, 6-2, for his first singles win in a Tech uniform. Sophomore Matthis Ross jumped out to a quick lead against Anuj Watane then gritted a three set contest.
Tech will wrap up the ACC Challenge tomorrow in Durham, N.C.
DAY 1
On Saturday, the Hokies joined NC State, Duke, and North Carolina in doubles competition in conference event.
In his first appearance for the Hokies, Hugo Maia teamed up with senior Ryan Kros to defeat the North Carolina duo of Peter Murphy and Anuj Watane. Sophomore Jordan Chrysostom made his debut Tech, paired up with longtime Hokie Alex Ribeiro. Freshman Ryan Fishback also got his first reps for Virginia Tech today, teamed up with sophomore Matthis Ross.
Tech will take the floor tomorrow in singles competition.
