Fourth-ranked Hokies announce impressive 2020 signing class

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men's soccer Head Coach Mike Brizendine announced the signing of seven prospects to letters-of-intent for the fall 2020 class. Brizendine spoke about his excitement surrounding his new additions.
 
"I'm very pleased to announce this collection of talented young men," Brizendine said. "Each player in this group exemplifies what we look for in one of our players. They are first and foremost great kids that will put the team and their teammates ahead of their own advancement. They have demonstrated they are committed to succeeding in the classroom and on the field. I have no doubt they will help us reach new heights within our program."
 
Below is an early look at each of the newcomers and some of their accomplishments.
 
Declan Quill
Position – Forward
Hometown – Falls Church, Va.
High School – George Mason
Club – Braddock Road Youth Club (BRYC)
 
Declan is a two-time First Team All-State selection, Region Player of the Year and was a nominee for the Gatorade Player of the Year.
 
He also competed in Rugby, winning the Virginia State Championships in his one year on the team.
 
For his club BRYC, Quill has been a two-time All-Conference selection.
 
Chris Thompson
Position – Defender
Hometown – Woodbridge, Va.
High School – Colgan
Club – Loudon Soccer Club

Thompson, who has competed at the varsity level since freshman year has been named Second Team All-District and was named the team's MVP in 2019.
 
He has also competed in basketball in high school.
 
For NVFC, Thompson was a 2017 NPL Divisional Champion.
 
Jordan Black
Position – Defender
Hometown – Woodbridge, Va.
High School – Colgan
Club – Loudoun Soccer
 
Black is a First Team all-district performer for Colgan and was the team captain in multiple seasons.
 
For his club Loudoun Soccer, Black helped lead his team win in the 2018 Virginia State Cup Championships.
 
Ethan Fraser
Position – Forward
Hometown – Leesburg, Va.
High School – Heritage
Club – Loudoun Soccer
 
Fraser has spent the four years playing forward for the D.C. United Academy. Prior to his time with D.C. United he led Bethesda Academy to multiple Georgia State Cup events.
 
Ben Martino
Position – Goalkeeper
Hometown – Pittsburgh, Pa.
High School – YSC Academy
Club – Philadelphia Union Academy
 
With his club, Martino has been a been a regional champion at the 2018 National Cup. He also competed in two seasons with Union 2 USL Pro team.
 
Carsten Bay
Position – Defender
Hometown – Chesapeake, Va.
High School – Frank W. Cox
Club – Beach FC
 
Bay, a four-year letter winner, was a named as a member of the 2019 All-Tidewater and VHSL Region 5A second teams.
 
For his club Beach FC, Bay helped lead his team reach back-to-back State Cup semi-finals and to the 2020 State Cup finals.
 
Danny Flores Gonzales
Position – Midfielder
Hometown – Moss Beach, Calif.
High School – YSC Academy
Club – Philadelphia Union Academy
 
Gonzales has played three seasons with the Union and competed in two seasons with Union 2 USL Pro team. He was also named to the 2017-18 US Soccer DA Central Conference Best 11.
 
A four-star recruit by Top Drawer Soccer for the 2020 class, Gonzales has also competed for the U.S. Soccer U-17 National Team.
