CINCINNATI – The Southeast Regional Training Center finished second at the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club RTC Cup after a strong Saturday showing propelled the team into the finals.
SERTC, paired with New Jersey Regional Training Center, went 2-1 Saturday after placing third in Pool B on Friday, taking down Gopher WC and Spartan Combat RTC in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, before dropping the championship dual 4-2 on matches.
Current Tech redshirt sophomore Mekhi Lewis competed at the two-day showcase and went 2-3 with both wins coming via technical fall. Hokies alum Ty Walz went 3-2 with wins over Jacob Cardenas and Timothy Dudley. SERTC resident athletes Nahshon Garrett and James Green went 2-3 and 2-2, respectively.
Lewis will be back in action with Virginia Tech wrestling when the team gets the 2020-21 season started on Jan. 2.
