WHAT WE'RE WATCHING FOR
•Rust after the first day game after exams, holiday break
The Hokies' last contest came on December 17, the 'Noles, a December 20th victory over Pitt. In addition, the game wasn't on the calendar until last week, cutting down on prep time for both programs.
Getting the student-athletes back to campus, in shape and focused after a break can be a challenge, one that both clubs have had to face in the buildup to this contest.
•Tech's defense being tested
In the non-conference portion of the schedule (five games) the Hokies held their opposition to 57 points per game and just 33% shooting from the field. In the first two league contests, Pitt and Notre Dame have averaged 77.5 points and combined to shoot 48%.
Additionally, the Hokies only recorded 28 rebounds at Notre Dame, a season low.
The Seminoles enter the contest scoring 71.5 points led by Kourtney Weber's 16.8. As a club, Florida State is shooting 43%.
•Consistency across the board
Tech's starting five of Georgia Amoore, Aisha Sheppard, Cayla King, Asiah Jones and Elizabeth Kitley average 70.3 points per contest and all average in double figures if you round up King's 9.7 average.
But, game-to-game consistency has not always been there when looking at their range of points scored.
Amoore's lowest output has been five, her best 23. Sheppard's range is a much more consistent 14-22.
King has scored zero twice and has gone for 29 this season. Jones is between four and 17. Kitley has scored between 15 and 30 each game.
On a night where they all produce what they are capable of, the Hokies figure to be a tough team to beat.
