SARASOTA, Fla. – Virginia Tech's Becca DiNunzio and Alyssa Montgomery tied for 11th and 42nd, respectively, at the 2020 Dixie Women's Amateur, which concluded Sunday afternoon at Palm Aire Country Club.
For DiNunzio, it was the sophomore's fourth top-20 showing of the fall. DiNunzio, who was named VSGA Women's Golfer of the Year a week ago, fired a 5-over 293 (76-72-74-71). She entered the four-day event on the heels of a runner-up finish at the Women's Griffin Amateur (Grandover Resort - Greensboro, N.C.) in October. DiNunzio was one of only six golfers to finish their final round in red figures.
Montgomery signed for a 16-over 304 (80-75-75-74). The Knoxville, Tenn., native overcame a disappointing first round to steadily climb the leaderboard each of the remaining three days. Montgomery's final round was highlighted by a three-hole stretch where she birdied holes 3-5, and made the turn in 1-under 35.
Fresno State's Brigitte Thibault claimed medalist honors with a 6-under 282 (71-71-71-69).
The Hokies, who last competed as a team in March, look to announce their spring 2021 schedule in the coming weeks.
