Lewis, Walz to compete in RTC Cup

CINCINNATI – The Southeast Regional Training Center is set to compete at the FloWrestling RTC Cup this weekend and is bringing a pair of Hokie wrestlers for the two-day competition starting Friday afternoon.
 
Redshirt sophomore Mekhi Lewis and Tech alum Ty Walz are heading out to Ohio for the tournament that pits seven of the top regional training centers in the country into six teams. Lewis and Walz are joining SERTC athletes Nahshon Garrett and James Green.
 
The SERTC will be paired with New Jersey Regional Training Center to form a team of eight wrestlers in six weight classes. Lewis and Walz are set to compete at 74 kilograms and 97 kilograms, respectively, while Garrett will be competing at 57 kilograms and Green at 65 kilograms. Weight classes will be given a three-kilogram allowance.
 
The tournament starts with pool competition on Friday with each team wrestling in two dual matches. SERTC will see Ohio RTC at 2 p.m. ET and Spartan Combat RTC at 4 p.m. ET in Pool B.
 
The winners of each pool get a bye to the semifinals Saturday afternoon, while the quarterfinal duals are scheduled for 1 and 2 p.m. ET Saturday. The tournament commences with the championship Saturday night at 8.
