Get to know our newest Hokie – Allie Lewis

BLACKSBURG – As it has been done now for several years, the Virginia Tech women's soccer program introduces its signing class in a different way. Rather than announcing all of them and their accomplishments in one release, Tech highlights each new signee individually with her own release and a "Get to Know" Q&A. This method will continue for the 2021 signing class in our "Welcome Wednesday" features until all of the new Hokies have been announced.

The third 2021 newcomer to be announced is Allie Lewis, a 5-foot-9 defender from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. For her senior year, she currently attends Bloomsburg High School, but spent the prior three years at Westtown School, and she anticipates majoring in biology when she comes to Tech.

Lewis has been playing for Penn Fusion DA for five years, playing for coach Craig Scangerella. She's also attended US Soccer Training Center events in 2017 and 2018 as well as being invited to the youth girls Washington Spirit training camp.

Lewis played three seasons of high school soccer, her first two for Westtown School and her senior year for Bloomsburg. This past fall, Lewis helped the Panthers to a 23-1 overall mark, a District IV title and the school's first ever Class AA State Championship with a 1-0 win over North Catholic, while earning first team PHAC defender.

At Westtown, Lewis earned MVP honors from the team as both a freshman and junior and was twice named first team all-league while helping the Moose to two of its three straight FSL league titles. Also as a junior, she was named an all-state defender while the team made the finals of the state tournament.

"Allie is a spine player. I think she can play holding mid or center back for us moving forward," Tech head coach Chugger Adair said. "She's got great size, good feet and is composed on the ball and somebody who can help us with our ability to play out of the back. She's also someone who is solid and committed to defending which we need to be."

Why did you choose Tech? I chose Virginia Tech because the campus felt like home to me. I am from a small town in Pennsylvania and it reminds me of Blacksburg. Virginia Tech has an excellent academic reputation and I am excited to be pushed on and off the field. Lastly, the campus is beautiful!

What was your favorite thing about your visit? The coaching staff was very welcoming when I was on my visit at Virginia Tech. They were interested in me not only as a player but most importantly as a person. They allowed me to recognize the bright future and opportunities that Virginia Tech provides.

What do you like about the Tech soccer program? I appreciate the competitive nature of the ACC. I recognize that every game will be a battle and I look forward to the challenge. I am excited to be tested at practice every day and learn from my future teammates and coaches. Finally, the Virginia Tech facilities are second to none.

What are your soccer strengths? Strengths of my game would include my mental toughness and tenacity, and I am also highly competitive.

Who is your favorite pro player (why)? My favorite professional player is Julie Ertz (current US Women's National player and NWSL professional). I enjoy watching Julie because she is a leader on the field who has great game-intelligence.  She also is great with her head and provides quality long balls to her fellow teammates. Lastly, I admire her competitive nature and will to win every game.

What is your most memorable soccer moment (why)? My most memorable soccer moment was when I was playing in the San Diego showcase against SoCal. I enjoyed this game because of the competitive atmosphere that was brought throughout the game. I will never forget the smile and being able to just have fun with the game. I was able to leave the game knowing I gave it my all. Not only was I very satisfied with our team's performance but also enjoyed the approval of my coaches.

What do you think you will major in (why)? I hope to major in biology because I plan to pursue a career in the healthcare field.

What's one thing you'd want Tech fans to know about you? I want Hokie Nation to know that I will give it my all from the minute I step on the field until the minute I step off!
