Hokies set to hit road for rivalry match against Cavaliers

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's soccer team will play the final contest of the fall regular season Friday afternoon as they travel up the road to Charlottesville to play a match with the rival Cavaliers.

The Hokies look to keep their upwards trajectory after earning the second of back-to-back ACC road wins with a 1-0 victory against Notre Dame Monday afternoon.
 
The Hokies took some time to find their footing in the opening minutes of play, but finished the half with momentum as they earned a corner kick and took all five of their first half shots over the final 15 minutes. Jacob Labovitz gave Tech the lead in the 52nd minute as he took one touch from Kyle McDowell's pass and fired a shot into the back of the net. 
 
The Cavaliers (2-2-1)
Virginia is coming off a win against Syracuse after dropping their previous two matches to Notre Dame and Pitt.
 
Notre Dame's Last Five Results

In the 71st minute the Cavaliers were awarded a penalty kick, which Andreas Ueland converted to give Virginia the 1-0 lead that they were able to hold on to until the end of the match. Phillip Horton (1 goal, 1 assist), Joan gilbert Fuertes (1 goal, 1 assist) and Kaya Ignacio (1 goal, 1 assist) lead the Cavaliers with three points each.
 
Series History
Tech is 0-2-3 in the last five matches against the Cavaliers with the last contest being a 1-1 draw that came at beginning of the 2020 season.

On the Horizon
The Hokies will play in the first round of the ACC tournament on Wednesday, November 15th. Tech's opponent is still to be determined.
