Virginia Tech athletics announces basketball virtual fan engagement opportunities

BLACKSBURG – Ahead of Virginia Tech's men's and women's basketball teams beginning their seasons this Wednesday, and with capacity set at 250 people due to a Commonwealth of Virginia mandate, Tech athletics has announced a number of virtual fan engagement opportunities in which fans can participate while they cheer on the Hokies from home.

Fans are encouraged to follow the @HokiesMBB, @HokiesWBB and @hokiesports Twitter and Instagram accounts, along with the Virginia Tech athletics Facebook page.

Fans should also update the HokieSports mobile app to ensure the latest version is installed in order to participate in a number of activities.

Behind the Mic presented by Atlantic Union Bank
Produced by Virginia Tech athletics in conjunction with Learfield IMG College, Behind the Mic, presented by Atlantic Union Bank, will feature a robust live coverage presentation, including video directly from the radio booth with Jon Laaser and Mike Burnop for men's home games and Bryant Johnson for ACC home women's games, along with in-game statistics, on-demand video content and a real-time social media feed.

This experience will be available for free on HokieSports.com and the HokieSports mobile app, and will begin approximately 30 minutes before tip-off of each home game.

Virginia Lottery Scratcher
Located within the HokieSports mobile app and on other digital platforms, fans can play a virtual scratch-off lottery ticket presented by Virginia Lottery. Each scratcher will contain a prize for Tech men's basketball home games, with the grand prize being personalized memorabilia. Fans are encouraged to play weekly as more plays increases the chance of winning the grand prize.

The HokieSports mobile app for iPhone can be downloaded here, while Android users can download the app here.

Cutout Cam presented by Carilion Clinic
Hokie fans who have purchased a fan cutout will want to watch for this feature as different cutouts will be highlighted on social media during specific home games as part of the Cutout Cam presented by Carilion Clinic.

Fan cutouts are still available for purchase by clicking here. The deadline to order a Cassell Cutout is Tuesday, Dec. 1 at noon ET.

Steal the Bacon presented by Smithfield
Prior to every home men's basketball game in January and February, one lucky Hokie fan will have the chance to win free bacon for a year courtesy of Smithfield. Fans will have the opportunity to predict the number of steals Tech will record in the upcoming game and those who guess correctly will be entered to win the grand prize.

Baby Race presented by Virginia529
One of Hokie Nation's favorites, the Baby Race presented by Virginia529 will be back this season, but in a different way as the race will be conducted virtually sometime between January and February on social media. Be on the lookout on how to enter the race later this season. The grand prize will be a Virginia 529 starter account.
