Women’s hoops set to begin season vs. Richmond November 25 at Cassell Coliseum

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's basketball program announced its five-game non-conference schedule Wednesday finalizing the entire upcoming 2020-21 slate. The Hokies will tip on Wednesday November 25 against in-state foe Richmond on November 25 at 4 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum, the second part of a double header at the facility. 
 
The Hokies' schedule includes regional opponents from the Atlantic 10, Atlantic Sun, Big South and Sun Belt conferences and all five games will be contested in Blacksburg at Cassell Coliseum.
 
November 25 vs. Richmond 4 PM

  • Tech is 6-6 all-time vs. the Spiders.
  • The programs last met in Orlando in the UCF Thanksgiving Tournament Nov. 25, 2018 an 85-57 victory for the Hokies. 
  • Richmond was 15-17 (7-9 Atlantic 10) last season, the first under Head Coach Aaron Roussell.

 
November 28 vs. Liberty 2 PM

  • Tech is 16-1 in the series and have beaten the Flames in consecutive seasons.
  • In the last meeting Nov. 15, 2019, Aisha Sheppard scored 20 points to lead the Hokies to a narrow victory at Cassell, 73-69. This is the third straight season with a meeting between the schools separated by 88.5 miles on I-81.
  • Liberty was 20-11 (11-5 Atlantic Sun) last season.

 
December 1 vs. George Washington 5 PM

  • Tech is 11-10 all-time against the Colonials in a series that has not been contested since 2012.
  • George Washington went 14-16 during the 2019-20 season, a mark that included an 8-8 record in the Atlantic 10. They split the seasons series with Richmond, defeating the Spiders in the regular season finale before falling in the opening game of the A-10 Tournament.

 
December 4 vs. Appalachian State 5 PM

  • Tech leads 12-2 in the series, most recently playing in 2012. 
  • In 2019-20, the Mountaineers were 11-19 and 8-10 in the Sun Belt Conference.

 
December 6 vs. Gardner-Webb 2 PM

  • Tech is 4-0 in the series which includes an 87-65 victory over the Bulldogs at Cassell in 2019 behind Elizabeth Kitley's double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Gardner-Webb was 18-11 (13-7) in the Big South.
