Hokies head to Notre Dame for Monday afternoon match with the Fighting Irish

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's soccer team will play the second match of a three-game road trip Monday afternoon as they take on Notre Dame.

The Hokies look to continue their momentum after claiming their first win of the season on October 30 against Louisville.
 
Holding a 12-2 advantage in shots coming out of the break, the Hokies kept up their offensive momentum with a goal in the 50th minute by Jacob Labovitz. Kristo Strickler found the fellow senior in the box who took one touch and fired a shot low and left for Tech's first goal of the night. Louisville would even the match in the 72nd minute, which forced the match to extra time. Labovitz provided the game winning goal in the 93rd minute as he fired a rocket to the far post and past the arms of the Cardinals' keeper.

Notre Dame is coming off back-to-back wins against Syracuse and Virginia after dropping their previous two matches.

Notre Dame trailed Virginia 1-0 after the first half, but the Irish leveled the match in the 54th minute off a Jack Lynn header from Patrick Coleman. Notre Dame won the match in the 103rd minute after an own goal gave the Irish the win. The Fighting Irish are led in points by Jack Lynn (3 goals, 0 assists) and Aiden McFadden (0 goals, 3 assists).
 
Series History
The Hokies are 3-6-1 all-time against the fighting Irish and are currently on a three-game win streak that began on September, 22 2017 when Tech defeated then No. 1 Notre Dame 2-1 on Thompson Field.
 
On the Horizon
The Hokies will continue their string of road matches as they face Virginia on Friday, November 6 for their final match before the ACC Tournament. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. and will be broadcasted live on the ACC Network.
 
Tech is 0-2-3 in the last five matches against the Cavaliers with the last contest being a 1-1 draw the beginig of the season.
