BLACKSBURG – The Hokies have their second intrasquad Hokie Belt Dual this Saturday.
Unlike before, this meet will be a long course race - something the team hasn't been able to compete in since COVID-19 hit last spring. "The meet this weekend will be a good test for us as we are getting ready to race long course," Senior David Herbert said. "For some of us it'll be the first time in quite a while because COVID-19 kept so many of us out of competitions. I think that this will be a good benchmark moving forward with major national and international meets coming up next year."
This will be the second of four intrasquad meets contributing to the year long Hokie Belt Challenge. Last meet the women's orange team and the men's maroon came out on top with 157 and 150 points respectively. Each team got 5 points added to their overall challenge score for the win.
"The Hokie Belt Challenge is something that gives you extra energy in the pool when you are tired and about to give up," Senior Reka Gyorgy said. "I'm thankful that the coaching staff started the Hokie Belt Challenge last year. It helps us to stay on course even in these uncertain times. I can't wait to see some fast swimming this weekend, let's go Hokies, let's go maroon team."
