The Virginia Tech men's soccer team (1-1-2) picked up their first win of the season Friday night as they defeated Louisville (1-5-1) at Dr. Mark & Cindy Stadium.
Tech had Louisville on their heels to open the match as they had several chances in the opening 12 minutes of play. Tech would go on pepper the Cardinals with 12 shots in the opening frame, six of which were on goal, but saves by Louisville's Jake Gelnovatch would see the game even at the break.
Tech would carry their momentum into the second half as they earned the first goal of the evening. In the 50th minute Kristo Strickler found Jacob Labovitz with no one around him inside the box. The senior from Great Falls, Virginia fired his shot to the bottom left of the net and by the outstretched leg of Gelnovatch.
The Hokies kept up their aggression, but Louisville's Elijah Amos would tie the match in the 72nd minute after he latched onto a through ball that was able to slip by Tech's back line.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the half, whcih saw tech head into. their third consecutive overtime match.
In the 93rd minute Labovitz delivered the game-winning goal courtesy of a pass from Chris Little. Labovitz fired a rocket with his right foot that curled high and past the arms of Gelnovatch.
