Gray named ACC Offensive Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Announced today by the Atlantic Coast Conference, Virginia Tech junior midfielder Emily Gray has been selected as the ACC Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Hokies to a victory on Saturday. She shared the honor with Boston College's Jenna Bike.

The nation's leader in total assists entering the week, Gray added two more to her totals in Tech's lone match as the Hokies defeated Navy 2-1. She set up Tori Powell in the 22nd minute for Tech's first goal on a give-and-go through ball, as Powell netted her third of the season.

Her second assist of the afternoon on Allyson Brown's game winner in the 41st minute – Brown's third goal of the season as well – gave Gray her third game-winning assist of the year and the seventh of her career.

The two assists in the match give her a team-best seven this year and ties her for the seventh-most ever recorded in a single season at the school, done seven other times and last accomplished by Jordan Coburn (2015).

The Sewell, New Jersey, native now has 15 career assists which is good for seventh on Tech's all-time career list and two behind Erin Moore (2004-07) for the sixth spot. Gray leads the Hokies with nine points and has 29 in her Tech career.

Nationally, Gray's seven assists are two better than a pair of Sun Belt players with five and three better than the five closest ACC players, who have four. She also leads the conference in assists per game (0.70), but sits fifth nationally, while she is 16th in the country in points, seventh in the conference.

Gray earns her first weekly honor from the ACC and becomes just the second midfielder at the school to earn the award Jennifer Harvey (Sept. 13, 2009). Joining Alia Skinner (Oct. 6), it marks just the fifth time in Tech history, the Hokies have had two different ACC honorees in the same season. To see the full ACC release, click here.

The Hokies will finish off the regular season on the road this weekend, first heading to Winston-Salem, N.C. to face Wake Forest on Thursday at 7 p.m. before heading to Boston College for a Sunday contest that kicks off at 1:30 p.m.
