Last home match for Tech in 2020 season

  • Saturday marks the last home game of the 2020 season and to highlight the occasion, Tech will honor five Hokies who arrived on campus in 2017 - Alexa Anderson, Allyson Brown, Caroline Cipolla, Alice Hamel and Kara Henderson.
  • After this final home contest, Tech will close out  its regular season with league matches at Wake Forest and Boston College looking for six points and a chance to climb in the ACC standings.
  • The top eight teams in the final league standings will advance to the ACC Championship, starting with quarterfinal matches on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Record-setting night for Tech

  • It was a record-setting night at Thompson Field when the Hokies took down visiting Miami with a decisive 8-2 victory.
  • The Hokies lit up the scoreboard early and often, netting four goals through 16:02 of action - the fastest Tech had ever scored four goals to start a match (Nov. 15, 2014 vs. Dayton, 29:58).
  • Before the first half was done, Tech had six goals marking the most ever scored in any half all-time at the school (five, vs. VMI, Aug. 31, 2004).
  • It also marked the most goals scored by an ACC team in a conference match since Oct. 17, 2004 (Duke, 9).

A couple of numbers to know from the win

  • 4 - Assists for Emily Gray versus Miami on Oct. 15, breaking the school record for a single match. The previous high was three (4x), most recently by Kelly Conheeney against Clemson, Oct. 13, 2011.
  • 5- Points for Allyson Brown (2G,A) versus Miami, the first Hokie since Laila Gray (2G,A) against Pittsburgh (Oct. 2, 2015) with a five-point game. She's also the first Hokie since Murielle Tiernan at William & Mary (Sept. 4, 2016) to score two goals off the bench.
  • 7 - Hokies - Emmalee McCarter, Emma Steigerwald, Karlie Johnson, Tori Powell, Allyson Brown, Taylor Bryan and Makenzie Graham - who scored versus Miami marking the first time in program history. The most prior was six versus VMI on Aug. 31, 2004 (a 9-0 win) and High Point on Aug. 23, 2013 (a 7-1 win).
  • 8/9/25 - Goals, assists, points for Tech in its victory over Miami. The eight goals are the most ever against an ACC foe and second-most all-time. The nine assists set one of many school records in the match, while the 25 points tied a program record first set in that VMI victory.

A tale of two matches last weekend

  • It was like night and day (also when the games were competed) for the Hokies last weekend, as they started it with that offensive explosion Thursday night against Miami, in which eight of their 17 shots found the back of the net.
  • On Sunday afternoon, though, Tech took a season-high 18 shots, but No. 13 Louisville would not surrender a goal as the Cardinals came away with the ACC win by a 1-0 count.
  • The 18 shots were the most since attempting 20 last year versus Boston College (Oct. 24, 2019), while the Hokies also had nine corners, the most since versus Xavier last year (Nov. 15, 2019).
