Hokies add Rincon to staff

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech women's tennis coach Terry Ann Zawacki-Holdren is delighted to announce the hiring of Eduardo Rincon as an assistant coach.

Rincon comes to Blacksburg with over two decades of experience competing and coaching in NCAA tennis, most recently holding the position of head coach of the men's program at Presbyterian College.

"We are thrilled to add Eduardo Rincon to our staff," Coach Zawacki-Holdren said. "Not only does Coach Rincon have elite coaching and playing experience, but he is also a phenomenal person and is well respected in the tennis world. We look forward to working with Coach Rincon and welcoming him and his family to Blacksburg."

Prior to his stint at Presbyterian, Rincon served as Director of Tennis at Kennesaw State. While overseeing the men's and women's squads, he coached Simon Pritchard, the 2016 and 2017 ASUN Conference Player of the Year and 2017 ASUN Male Student-Athlete of the Year. Rincon steered the men's program to its first ASUN tournament semifinal appearances and the women's team to three consecutive tournament appearances.

Rincon's coaching career started as an assistant coach for the women's team at Alabama in 2005 before moving to the men's program at Arkansas in 2008. While with the Razorbacks, he coached NCAA semifinalist Blake Strode.

Throughout his career, Rincon's teams have upheld a high academic standing, similar to the Hokies. Nine of Rincon's teams throughout his career have received ITA All-Academic honors.

As a player, Rincon spent seven years ranked on the ATP tour and represented Colombia in the Davis Cup from 1997-2001. While attending Valdosta State, he achieved a No. 1 ranking in NCAA Division II and was an All-American in 2004 and 2005. Rincon was inducted into the Valdosta State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.
