Tech to face Notre Dame Sunday morning at Thompson Field

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's soccer team will play their second of three consecutive home matches Sunday morning as they face off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The Hokies (0-1-1) look to claim their first win of the season after battling No. 5 Virginia to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night.
 
Tech was in control for a large portion of contest, holding the advantage in shots (23-12) and corner kicks (9-2) on the night. One of Tech's shots found the back of the net in the 77th minute when Daniel Pereira's through ball found a streaking Kahlil Dover, who was able to use his right foot to power his shot pass the keeper and into the bottom right of the net for the first goal of his career. Virginia found the back off the net a minute later off a free kick. Neither team was to capitalize on any of their chances the remainder of the match.

Notre Dame comes to Blacksburg off a win against Syracuse after dropping their previous two matches to Pittsburgh and Louisville.

The Fighting Irish took an early lead when Paddy Burns found Jack Lynn in the 6th minute and would hold onto that lead for remainder of the match. Notre Dame is lead in goals by Lynn (2) and assists by Aiden McFadden (3).
 
Series History
The Hokies are 3-6-1 all-time against the fighting Irish and are currently on a three-game win streak that began on September, 22 2017 when Tech defeated then No. 1 Notre Dame 2-1 on Thompson Field.
 
On the Horizon
The Hokies will once again return to Thompson Field on Saturday, October 24 for their final home match as they face Syracuse. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. on the ACC Network Extra.
 
Tech is 6-2-0 all-time against The Orange with the last contest being a 3-1 decision in 2018.
