Hokies earn national academic recognition

BLACKSBURG - The United Soccer Coaches recently announced the Team Academic Award winners at the college level which recognizes exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2019-20 academic year and for the fourth straight season, and eighth time in 10 years, the Virginia Tech women's soccer team has been honored by the organization.

A total of 914 collegiate teams (345 men, 569 women) earned the Team Academic Award, including 188 schools who had both their men's and women's programs among the recipients, including Virginia Tech.

"I'm extremely proud of our student-athletes and team, in general, as they continue to hold high standards in the classroom as they continue to excel and prepare for their future," Virginia Tech head coach Chugger Adair said.

The Hokies were first honored for four straight years from 2011-14 and have now been recognized the last four seasons. United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full school year.

College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point of average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster.
