Top Notes for the Hokies (link to Game Notes pdf packet)

Noting the Hokies in home openers
- In home openers, Tech is 8-0-1 under head coach Chugger Adair. Overall, the Hokies are unbeaten in 19 straight (15-0-4).
- The Hokies had won 11 in a row before 2018's home-opening 0-0 double-overtime draw against San Diego (Aug. 17).
- In the nine home openers under Adair, Tech has outscored its opponents 30-3 with six shutouts, including three straight.
- The Hokies have trailed for just 38 minutes, 37 seconds in their home openers under Adair - when East Carolina's Courtney Cash scored 5:33 into the match on Aug. 26, 2016 before Tech got an equalizer and then went on to win 5-1.
- The Cash goal was the last scored on Tech in a home opener, as the Hokies are riding a 374: 27 consecutive scoreless streak in home openers.
- Overall, the program has posted a 21-2-4 mark in home openers, losing just the 1993 (Detroit, Sept. 18, 4-0) and 2000 (Seton Hall, Aug. 27, 3-2) home openers.
- Tech has 13 shutouts in 28 home openers and twice have registered four straight - 1994-97 and 2009-12. The Hokies have only been shut out twice - 1993 and 2018.
- Only once has Tech hosted a ranked opponent for its home opener - Sept. 2, 2007 versus No. 13 Tennessee. Marika Grayscored twice (17:07 and 19:30) Ashley Owens saved seven shots as Tech held on for a 2-1 victory.
- The Hokies latest home opener before this season was competed on Sept. 24, 2002 when Tech shut out Liberty 5-0.
- In the contest against the Flames, Kjersti Trout set the school record for goals scored (4) and points (8) in a single game. Neither of those has yet been matched.

Tech versus Virginia, last time in Blacksburg
- Despite the lopsided overall mark against the Cavaliers, Tech has won two-of-seven matches played in Blacksburg, including the last one contested at Thompson Field in 2018, a quite memorable one.
- The contest was first postponed due to Hurricane Florence, then Mother Nature found a way to effect the rescheduled contest as the Hokies battled No. 6 Virginia through rain, an hour lightning delay and soggy conditions over the final 16 minutes to pull off a 1-0 victory.
- The lone goal in the match was scored off an Emily Gray corner as Jordan Hemmen headed in the ball just in front of Virginia goalkeeper Laurel Ivory and into the back of the net in the 14th minute.
- Virginia outshot the Hokies in the second half 6-3, but Tech goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn came up big each time, making six stops to register her sixth shutout of the season.

Tech versus Virginia - Round 1
- Tech and Virginia opened its 2020 campaigns on Sept. 12 against each other in the first non-conference regular season match between the two teams since 1996, a 1-0 Cavaliers win in Charlottesville (Sept. 24).
- Before Tech joined the ACC, the two teams played a total of three non-conference matches with Virginia winning all three (1994 and 1995).
- The Cavaliers won the first of the two scheduled matches two weeks ago by a 3-1 count in Charlottesville.
- The teams are playing a home-and-home series this year, both non-conference matches. Only four times in the series history prior have the two squads squared off twice during a season with mixed results - and prior to this year, the second match had always been in a postseason tournament.
