Hokies host North Carolina in a pair of matches

Match Notes

BLACKSBURG – To begin their ACC slate, the Virginia Tech volleyball team will play host to North Carolina with the first match being on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET with coverage available through the ACC Network. The second contest is on Friday at 5 p.m. ET on the ACC Network Extra at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum.

Fan information: To follow the public health guidelines and ensure the safety of Virginia Tech's student-athletes, staff, and fans, all Olympic fall sports at Virginia Tech will compete without fans in attendance until further notice. Tech volleyball, men's soccer and women's soccer matches will be played without spectators, while only essential staff and family members of the student-athletes will be allowed in attendance.

Last time out, Tech took down The Citadel in a 3-0 clean sweep improving the Hokies record to 1-0 on the season. Graduate student Ashley Homan recorded 12 kills with a .667 hitting percentage in the match. In the contest, setter Brie Postema registered 20 assists along with four aces. 

Head coach Marci Byers garnered her first victory as a Hokie after the 3-0 success against the Bulldogs. Outside hitter Homan in her first-ever match at Tech won ACC Volleyball Player of the Week earning the first honor of the season by the ACC. 

Last time against North Carolina, the Hokies concluded their 2019 season defeating North Carolina 3-2 in a five-set thriller with setter Talyn Jackson registering a triple-double.
 
The Tar Heels (0-0) are led by Joe Sagula who is entering his 31st season as the North Carolina head coach. Sagula at North Carolina has a record of 614-355 and a record of 817-478 over 39 seasons. The Tarheels return two sophomores in Parker Austin and Skyy Howard who earned all-freshman honors in the ACC. North Carolina returns just one lone senior in Aristea Tontai.
