No Game Admission for Fans
In adherence to state, local and university guidelines, capacity for Lane Stadium for the beginning on the 2020 season is capped a 1,000. Health officials and government agencies have been working collaboratively with our leadership team in an effort to understand what is and, as importantly, what is not possible for our first home game against Virginia on September 19.
We are working to exhaust all options to provide a safe and healthy environment for our fans in Lane Stadium. With that number, we are only able to provide admission to the families of our student-athletes, the coaches, and the visiting team. It is important to note that these restrictions are fluid and constantly evolving. We will adapt our policies in accordance with the situation.
It is important to note that capacity limitations still remain unclear and may vary from game-to-game, though we do not anticipate being able to welcome full capacity crowds this season. As soon as capacity details are known for each game; they will be shared with fans.
Tailgating Prohibited for the 2020 Season
As part of ongoing conversations focused on preserving public health, Virginia Tech and the Town of Blacksburg will prohibit tailgating during the fall season in university and town parking lots and public spaces. This decision applies to football games, as well as all other fall sporting events, including soccer, volleyball, and cross country.
Instead, Hokie football fans are asked to "homegate" with members of their family or pods to safely watch each game. Virginia Tech and the Town of Blacksburg ask that fans hosting "homegating" events follow all community safety standards and ordinances, including social distancing and the wearing of masks.
Virginia Tech will continue to monitor all parking lots on game day. Virginia Tech Police will inform anyone seeking to hold a tailgate that it is currently prohibited and are prepared to enforce this decision if individuals choose not to comply.
Town officials say that they, too, will enforce ordinances put in place in response to the pandemic that restrict gatherings of people, especially events in which participants who are not wearing a mask or physically distant from others.
