BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech baseball staff has announced the date of Wednesday, September 9 as an opportunity for interested Tech students to try out for walk-on spots for the 2021 season. The tryout will begin at 4 p.m. and will be held at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.
Any players who are looking to participate in the tryout must first be cleared medically by Tech's baseball athletic trainer Kyle Staggers before taking part. This is MANDATORY and information regarding the medical clearance is below.
Briefly what is needed in order to attend the tryout:
- All three forms completed and submitted to Staggers [click on link to open pdf: Sports Medicine Tryout Guideline Baseball (white sheet); Athlete Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (blue sheet); Athlete Information Sheet (orange sheet)
- Provide proof of a NEGATIVE COVID-19 test
- Provide/obtain sickle cell trait test results and submit to Staggers
- Provide Staggers with proof of health insurance
- Meet with Staggers to do a cardiac/prior medical history screen
Students are asked to please email Staggers (kyleas8@vt.edu) to set up an appointment for anything related to the medical clearance. Participants who have been cleared should expect a full baseball workout and should bring all necessary equipment – including but not limited to cleats, glove, bat, helmet – and should be dressed in baseball pants and a hat.
