Tech alums ready for action as NFL training camps ramp up

BLACKSBURG All 32 NFL teams are conducting training camps at their team facilities in 2020, and as always, Virginia Tech is well represented with 17 players on NFL rosters. Washington headlines that list with four Tech alums on the squad of head coach Ron Rivera. Let's take a look at how the Hokies are lining up across the nation.
 
QB Tyrod Taylor appears to have the inside track to lead the Chargers in 2020 as he helps groom first-round pick QB Justin Hebert for the pro level. During his first nine NFL seasons Taylor has thrown for 9,562 yards and 54 touchdowns, to go along with his 1,843 rushing yards and16 rushing touchdowns. CB Brandon Facyson enters his third season with the Chargers after making the squad as a rookie free agent in 2018

Four-time Pro Bowl T Duane Brown owns the most pro seniority of any current NFL Hokie as his enters his 13th NFL season. Brown is joined in the league by fellow Hokie offensive linemen G Wyatt Teller (Cleveland) and Yosuah Nijman (Green Bay).
 
Baltimore S Chuck Clark returns after a breakout season that saw him move into the starting lineup for the Ravens in Week Six of the 2019 season. He led Baltimore with 73 total tackles and allowed an opposing passer rating of 75.1 when dropping in coverage, logging one INT, nine pass breakups and two forced fumbles. During the offseason, Clark agreed to a three-year extension with the Ravens. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the deal for Clark included approximately $10 million in guarantees with the total value of the extension reportedly worth $16 million.

Former Tech QB Bruce Arians is entering his second season as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A two-time NFL Coach of the Year, the longtime pro coach lured QB Tom Brady and TE Rob Gronkowski to his squad in 2020. Arians was also recently honored for his commitment to diversity on his staff.

Buffalo LB Tremaine Edmunds is coming of an impressive sophomore campaign that saw him become the first player in NFL history to record two 100-plus tackle seasons by the age of 21. Edmunds led the Bills with 115 tackles (66 solo), to go along with nine passes defensed, 1.5 sacks and one interception to earn his initial Pro Bowl berth.
RB Trey Edmunds and S Terrell Edmunds both remain on the roster in Pittsburgh. Terrell finished second on the team in total tackles with 105 in 2019, while Trey finished with 140 yards from scrimmage in 2019.
 
Washington boasts an NFL-high four Tech alums on its roster. High school and college teammates DT Tim Settle and CB Greg Stroman head into their third year in the NFL. Washington also brought CB Kendall Fuller back to the nation's capital as he signed a reported four-year, $40 million contract. TE Logan Thomas, who still holds the record as Tech's all-time leading passer, signed with the team in the off-season. Former Tech All-American DeAngelo Hall also joined Washington's radio broadcast team after concluding his stellar pro playing career with the franchise.

Chicago CB Kyle Fuller enters his sixth NFL season coming and is coming off his second consecutive Pro Bowl appearance after finishing the season with 82 tackles (72 solo), 12 passes defensed and three interceptions. The 2014 first-round draft pick was part of a defense that helped the Bears rank fourth in the NFL in scoring defense (18.6 ppg) and eighth in total defense (324.1 ypg). The Hokies also brought Corey Fuller back to Blacksburg in the team's player personnel department in 2020, upping the number of former Tech players on the staff to seven.
 
After having injuries slow down his rookie season, WR Isiah Ford saw action in eight games for the Dolphins in 2019 as he finished the year with 23 receptions for 244 yards. TE Dalton Keene enters his rookie season after being drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. S Reggie Floyd is in his first NFL training camp after signing as a rookie free agent with the Arizona Cardinals.
