Virginia Tech women's golfer Emily Mahar was an honorable mention on the 2020 Golfweek All-American team. This is her first time and the program's first time of receiving this honor.
Mahar, a junior from Brisbane, Australia, led the Hokies in scoring this past season, with a 71.60 scoring average. She also led the team in final round scoring average and rounds of par-or better.
The Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Month for October 2019, Mahar won her first collegiate event early in the month, taking medalist honors at the Princess Anne Invitational in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She helped lead the Hokies to the team title in the same event, the first team tournament title in school history.
She finished the shortened 2019-20 season ranked 40thin the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings and 50thin the Golfstat.comrankings. She is the Hokies' all-time leader in scoring average.
Mahar is one of five ACC players that received honorable mention and one of 10 ACC players that were named to any of the All-American teams by Golfweek. Only five ACC schools had players receiving mention on these teams. Mahar is the only player from a school in the Commonwealth of Virginia to be honored.
