BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech wrestling's David McFadden and Hunter Bolen were both named First-Team All-Americans, the NWCA announced Friday.
With the honor, McFadden becomes the program's first four-time All-American. He earned the distinction by finishing 6th, 5th and 5th at the 2016, 2018 and 2019 NCAA Championships, respectively. The redshirt senior was slotted as the 7-seed at the 2020 NCAA Championships.
McFadden went 21-5 in his final season in maroon and orange. He claimed his 100th career victory on January 11 versus West Virginia at Cassell Coliseum, joining just 12 other Hokies in the 100-win club.
This is the first time Bolen has been named an All-American. The redshirt sophomore had a breakout campaign after redshirting 2018-19, finishing the season as the No. 1 ranked 184-pound wrestler by InterMat. Bolen went 24-2 this season, won his first ACC title and was seeded second at the 2020 NCAA Championships.
The NWCA recognizes All-Americans from their performance at the NCAA Championships. However, due to the cancellation of the 2020 championships, this year's All-American class is based off wrestlers' body of work through the conference championships.
