GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech wrestling's Stanley Smeltzer was named to the All-ACC Academic Wrestling Team, the conference announced Thursday.
Smeltzer, an aerospace engineering major, went 13-15 and led the team with nine major decision victories in his first season starting at 197 pounds. Smeltzer also recorded the fastest pin of the season for the Hokies, ending a match in just 18 seconds.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
