Hokies earn All-ACC Academic Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four Hokies have been named to the 2020 Swimming & Diving All-ACC Academic team as announced Friday by the league office.

Filippo Dal Maso and Thomas Hallock made the men's team while Teagan Moravek and Joelle Vereb represented the Hokies on the women's team. This marks Vereb's second nod to the conference academic team, while the other three Hokies are making their first appearances.

All four were set to represent the Hokies at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships before the event was cancelled. Dal Maso was going for the 800 free relay, while Hallock was set to compete in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 back.

Vereb qualified for the 50 free and 100 fly while Moravek was set to represent the Hokies on the boards in 1-meter and 3-meter. Dal Maso, Hallock, Vereb and Moravek all earned All-America honors this season.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
