FERRUM, Va. – Following an ACC Indoor Championship performance by the women's Virginia Tech track and field program Director of track and field Dave Cianelli was named the Virginia Women's Coach of the Year, announced by the Virginia Sports Information on Tuesday afternoon.
Cianelli led the women's team to their third ACC indoor title and the first since winning back-to-back titles in 2007-08. The Hokies exploded for 80 points on the final day of competition to finish with 105.5, as they beat second place Miami (73 points). It also marked the sixth overall ACC championship on the women's side.
The first team is highlighted by ACC Indoor Champions Rachel Baxter (pole vault), Caitlan Tate (400 meters), Sarah Edwards (mile), Sara Freix (5,000 meters) and the women's 4x400 meter relay team of Tate, Kennedy Dennis, Nykah Smith and Arlicia Bush.
