Nolley earns two postseason ACC honors

Opens in a new window ACC Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. – On the ACC Network's Packer & Durham Show Monday morning, the league office announced that Virginia Tech men's basketball's Landers Nolley II earned All-ACC honorable mention and ACC All-Freshman Team honors.

The redshirt freshman becomes the fifth-ever Hokie to make the ACC All-Freshman Team and the first in six years, joining Devin Wilson (2014), Dorian Finney-Smith (2012), Jeff Allen (2008) and Deron Washington (2005).

Nolley, who is averaging 15.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, is the lone player in the ACC with at least that stat line on those three respective categories and is just one of five high-major conference players.

The Atlanta native was a school-record five-time ACC Freshman of the Week award winner and is one of just seven ACC players this season to boast nine or more 20-point games. He also broke Tech's debut scoring record with a career-high 30 points at Clemson on Nov. 5, which sits fourth all-time on the ACC's freshman debut scoring list.

Ranking eighth in scoring in the ACC and 11th nationally among freshmen, Nolley's seven 3-pointers versus Lehigh were tied for the most by an ACC player in a game this year. With a big showing in Hawai'i back in November, Nolley made the Maui Jim Maui Invitational All-Tournament Team, too.

Last, but not least, the guard/forward last week made the ACC Men's Basketball All-Academic Team, following his strong semesters in the classroom. He was joined by fellow freshman Nahiem Alleyne, a Georgia native himself (Buford, Ga.).

Nolley, Alleyne and the 11th-seeded Hokies (16-15, 7-13 ACC) will take on 14th-seeded North Carolina (13-18, 6-14) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET on ACC Network. The winner will play sixth-seeded Syracuse (17-14, 10-10) at 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
