BLACKSBURG— The Virginia Tech women's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 8 Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon.
The day started strong for the Hokies, as they clinched the doubles point on courts 1 and 2.
Freshman Erika Cheng and Chhinda Som put on an impressive display in their bout with Nami Otsuka and Rosie Garcia Gross, en route to a 6-2 win. Meanwhile, seniors Shene Disbergen and Natalie Novotna were caught in a back and forth battle with Sophia Sassoli and Nadia Gizdova that went to a tiebreak, where the experienced Hokies pulled out the win, 7-6(5).
In singles, junior Nika Kozar was in a contentious match on Court 2 with No. 41 Victoria Flores. With both competitors having moments of brilliance, Flores edged Kozar in a lengthy 10-point tiebreak, 4-6, 7-6(6), 1-0(12).
The Hokies will return to action on Thursday, March 19, at 1 p.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
