CHARLOTTE – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team saw its six-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the nation's third-ranked team Sunday afternoon falling in the Crown Classic to Syracuse 18-8.

The result moves the Hokies' record to 7-2 (1-1) ahead of a trip to the northeast to face Brown and Boston College.

Syracuse (7-1, 1-0) got off to a quick start with a 4-1 lead in the first half and would not relinquish it, with a combination of stifling defense and success on the draw circle early. All-American Emily Hawryschuk scored four goals and assisted three others.

Goalie Asa Goldstock made five save in the game.

Tech was led by Sarah Lubnow's two goals and Sara Goodwin's three points in the game that featured seven different goal scorers of the squad's eight goals. Midfielders Paige Petty and Emma Crooks each secured four draw controls and had one goal.
