SUNDAY - Third Round
The Virginia Tech women's golf team posted a three-round total of 868 and finished in second place at the Gators Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The two-day tournament was played at the par 70, 6,002-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Florida.
The Hokies opened the tournament with a 296 in Saturday's first round, then surged to a two-under 278 in the afternoon round. The 278 was the low round of the tournament and the only sub-par round in any of the three rounds. Tech shot a 294 in Sunday's third round.
Jessica Spicer, a senior from Bahama, North Carolina, led the Hokies individually. She tied for third place at 3-over 213, one stroke behind medalist Tunrada Piddon of UCF, who defeated Marta Perez SanMartin of Florida in a playoff. Spicer shot an even-par 70 in the final round, finishing with two round of par-or-better.
Emily Mahar, a junior from Brisbane, Australia, tied for 11thplace at 218 and Becca DiNunzio, a freshman from Norfolk, Virginia, and Alyssa Montgomery, a freshman from Knoxville, Tennessee, tied for 14that 219. Keera Foocharoen, a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand, tied for 42ndat 230. Sarah Spicer, a redshirt junior from Bahama, North Carolina, played the tournament as an individual and tied for 52ndat 232.
Host Florida won the team title at 10-over 850, 18 strokes ahead of the Hokies and 19 strokes ahead of Michigan. UCF and Penn State tied for fourth at 879, Campbell was sixth at 900, Tennessee was seventh at 904 and South Florida was eighth at 916. Daytona State was ninth at 917, Kansas was 10that 924, FIU was 11that 925 and Florida Atlantic was 12that 935.
The Hokies will return to action March 27-29, as they compete in the Clemson Invitational. The three-day event, hosted by Clemson, will be played at the Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, South Carolina.
SATURDAY - First and Second Rounds

The Hokies opened the day with a 296 in the first round, but surged to a two-under 278 in the afternoon round. The 278 was the low round of the day and the only sub-par round in either of the first two rounds.

Mahar had seven birdies and an eagle on the day. The eagle came in the second round, a three on the par five, 475-yard 12thhole. She was 3-under on the day on that hole.
Jessica Spicer, a senior from Bahama, North Carolina, is tied for fifth place at 143 and Becca DiNunzio, a freshman from Norfolk, Virginia, is tied for 10th at 145. Both Spicer and DiNunzio carded 3-under 67s in the second round, the two lowest rounds by any competitor on Saturday.
Alyssa Montgomery, a freshman from Knoxville, Tennessee, is tied for 13th at 146 and Keera Foocharoen, a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand, is tied for 28th at 150. Sarah Spicer, a redshirt junior from Bahama, North Carolina, is playing the tournament as an individual and is tied for 40that 153.
Host Florida leads the tournament at 10-over 570, four strokes ahead of the Hokies and 13 strokes ahead of Michigan. UCF is fourth at 584, Penn State is fifth at 590, Campbell is sixth at 594 and Tennessee is seventh at 601. South Florida is eighth at 608, Daytona State is ninth at 611, Kansas is 10that 612, FIU is 11that 616 and Florida Atlantic is 12that 627.
The final round will be played on Sunday morning. The Hokies will be grouped with Florida and Michigan in the final round.
