BLACKSBURG – Eight Virginia Tech divers are heading to the 2020 NCAA Zone A Championships hosted by West Virginia University March 9-11 in the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia.
The Hokies will be represented by Brooke Leftwich, Rainey Vause, Teagan Moravek, Izzi Mroz and Regan Westwood on the women's side. For the men's team, Noah Zawadzki, Joseph Perreault and Taj Cole are set to compete. Monday and Tuesday's events begin at noon while Wednesday is set for 11 a.m.
All dives (prelims & finals) will count toward a final score with the A zone sending at least five women in both the 1-meter, six in 3-meter and five women in the platform. On the men's side at least six men will be sent to NCAAs from the 1-meter and, five men in the 3-meter and four in platform. Additionally, divers that qualify in an event are eligible to compete at the NCAA Championships in any other event, provided they finished in the top 12 at the same zone meet and have achieved the zone qualifying score.
During the season, divers must score a certain mark to be invited to NCAA Zone Championship. At each zone, divers must qualify for their invitation to the national championships. Each of the NCAA's five zones earn a different amount of invite slots, based on how that zone's divers preformed at last year's NCAAs.
Divers from Army, Boston College, Brown, Buffalo, Cornell, Dartmouth, Delaware, Drexel, Harvard, James Madison, La Salle, Marist, Marshall, Massachusetts, Navy, Northeastern, Penn State, Pitt, Princeton, Rider, Virginia, West Virginia, and Yale are scheduled to join the Hokies in Morgantown for the 2020 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships.
