USTFCCCA Release
NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Friday afternoon that Virginia Tech director of track and field and cross country Dave Cianelli was tabbed as the 2020 indoor Southeast Region Women's Coach of the Year, while Peter Seufer was named as the indoor Men's Track Athlete of the Year.
This is the 17th time that he has won the honor in his 19 years at Virginia Tech. This year, Cianelli led the women's team to its third ACC indoor title, as Tech scored 105.5 points to win their first indoor title since 2008. That title marked the 16th overall for Virginia Tech track and field and cross country programs since the school joined the ACC for the 2004-05 season.
Seufer has had an excellent final indoor season in the Marron and Orange as he earns Southeast Region honors for the first time of his career. The Lynchburg, Virginia native was named the ACC indoor track MVP after winning gold in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter run at the ACC Indoor Championships. Suefer also broke the school record in the 5,000 meters earlier this season at the Iowa State Classic with his time of 13:36.36.
On Monday, the USTFCCCA put out its rankings heading into NCAAs, and the Hokie men came in No. 22 in the nation. The men and women both own 14 times and marks that rank in the top 50 across the nation.
The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 13-14. The event will be streamed live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
