HAMPTON, VA – Hampton native, Virginia Tech alum and current Los Angeles Chargers QB Tyrod Taylor made a generous and significant $25,000 donation from the Tyrod Taylor Foundation to Virginia Peninsula Foodbank to purchase a truckload of nutritious food to help those in his local community who have been economically impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19). During this time of urgency and emergency, the Foodbank plays an important role in meeting the needs of those who are experiencing food insecurity.
"We're seeing unprecedented times, but I'm happy that I've been blessed with a platform to help," Taylor said. "I hope my charity's donation to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank greatly impacts those in need right now, specifically the schoolchildren who count on those meals throughout the week. I also hope it encourages others who have platforms similar to mine to join in support."

"We are truly honored and genuinely touched to receive this incredible contribution from Tyrod Taylor that will help provide healthy meals to individuals, families, and children across the Peninsula during a period of anxiety and increased need," said Karen Joyner, chief executive officer for Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. "Tyrod's compassion and concern for his hometown community and his extraordinary commitment to helping those in need will enable our neighbors experiencing difficulties and disruptions in their lives to enjoy nourishing food they might otherwise be unable to obtain. We thank him for his dedication to making people's lives happier, healthier, and more hopeful."
In January, 2020, Tyrod partnered with Kroger at the grand opening of their new Hampton store location. He participated in a shopping spree that resulted in a significant amount of food to help stock the shelves at Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. The Foodbank has consistently witnessed firsthand the love Tyrod Taylor possesses for his hometown neighbors and friends.
