Tech looks to start new streak Wednesday

PROVIDENCE – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team is set for the program's first ever matchup with Brown on Wednesday, March 11 when the Hokies take on the Bears on ESPN+. Tech will look to get back into the win column after falling 18-8 at the hands of then-No. 3 Syracuse in the Crown Classic. 
 
In that game seven Hokies scored the team's eight goals with Sarah Lubnow notching two tallies. Sara Goodwin and Taylor Caskey both scored three points with a goal and two assists.
 
Tech's defense still ranks among the nation's best, registering the fifth-best scoring defense (7.33) and eight-best caused turnovers (12.00 per game). Goalie Angie Benson owns the second-best goals against average in the nation at 6.73.

SCOUTING BROWN
In their last game, Brown was defeated by Yale, 11-10, on Saturday at Reese Stadium. The Bears held an 8-5 lead at the 18:45 mark of the second half but the Bulldogs scored six of the next eight goals for the one-goal win. After Yale's Anna Vetsch scored the go-ahead goal at 1:35, Brown forced a turnover to gain possession with just under a minute remaining, but the Bulldogs returned the favor and caused a turnover with 10 seconds left to ice the game. Sophomore Claire Jeschke led the Bears in scoring with four points on two goals and two assists while sophomore Alaina Parisella added a career-high three goals.
 
Sophomore Sophia DeRosa leads the team with 18 points on 15 goals and three assists. She has recorded a hat trick or better in three of Brown's six games this season. Sophomore Claire Jeschke is second in scoring with 16 points on 11 goals and five assists while junior Risa Mosenthal is behind her in third (14G, 1A). Defensively, junior Allison Lanzone leads the team in caused turnovers with eight. Junior Mason Warble and sophomore Erin Schafer are tied for second in caused turnovers (6) while Schafer has a team-best 11 ground balls. Freshman Emmie Lau has contributed 27 draw controls to lead Brown. Sophomore Erin Tucker has started all six games in net and has a 10.19 goals-against average and a .425 save percentage. Tucker registered a season-high 11 saves at No. 17 Boston College on Feb. 25 with seven stops coming in the second half.
