Hokies set for Virginia Tech Invite

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's and women's swimming and diving team is set to host a three-day meet beginning Friday at 10 a.m. at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

IN THE RANKINGS
The Tech men are ranked No. 20 in the latest CSCAA TYR Top-25 standings.
 
HOKIES MEN

  • Tech had five first-place finishes the last time out against No. 6 NC State.
    • Antani Ivanov (200 fly), Sam Tornqvist (200 back), AJ Pouch (200 breast) and Noah Zawadzki (3-meter) all had individual top finishes.
      • The Hokies 200 free relay of Blake Manoff, Thomas Hallock, Henry Claesson and Lane Stone also claimed the top spot.
  • Stone added a second-place finish in the 200 free and third place time in the 500 free.
  • Pouch (100 breast), Hallock (50 free), Manoff (100 fly) and Zawadzki (1-meter) also added second place finishes for the Hokies.
    • The 200 medley relay team of Forest Webb, Simon Shi, Manoff and Hallock came in second as well.
  • Ivanov, Hallock, Pouch and Manoff had NCAA B cut times in the 200 fly, 50 free, 200 breast and 100 fly, respectively.
  • This is the Hokies final meet before entering into the postseason competition beginning Wednesday, Feb. 19 with men's diving at the ACC Championships. The Tech men's swim team will compete at ACCs Feb. 26-29.

 
HOKIES WOMEN

  • Brooke Travis and Teagan Moravek led the Hokies against the Wolfpack, winning two events each.
    • Travis claimed the 1000 freestyle early in the meet before going on to take the 500 free later.
    • Moravek swept diving with wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter as she defeated the 2x ACC platform champion.
  • Kayla Purcell added a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly.
  • Morgan Miller (200 fly), Margarita Ryan (200 back), Loulou Vos (500 free) and Izzi Mroz (3-meter) all added third-place finishes for the Hokies.
  • Tech's 200 medley relay team of Alex Slayton, Joelle Vereb, Purcell and Sarah Shackelford added third in the 200 medley relay.
  • The Hokies wrap up the regular the season this weekend before taking to the pool at ACC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 19-22 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
