Tech falls to No. 7 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. — The Virginia Tech women's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 7 Duke this evening at Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.

Duke proved to be too much early in the match, as they took the doubles point with convincing results on courts one and three, giving up just one game to the Hokies. Tech's Elizabet Danailova and Nika Kozar were playing a close one on court two and were tied at three, but the match went unfinished once the point was decided.

The Blue Devil's four ranked singles players propelled the team to a win as they claimed the matches on courts 1-4 in straight sets to clinch the match.

A bright spot in the outing came from freshman Erika Cheng, who sealed a victory in a 10-point tiebreak on court five, downing Hannah Zhao, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0(8).

The Hokies will return to the court on Sunday when they make the short trip down the road to face No. 1 North Carolina at 1 p.m.
