Hokies finish tenth at Icon Invitational

FINAL RESULTS

TUESDAY - Final Round

The Virginia Tech women's golf team posted a three-round total of 882 and finished in tenth place at the Icon Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The two-day event was played at the par 72, 6,392-yard Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club in The Woodlands, Texas.
 
The Hokies shot rounds of 301 and 293 on Monday and finished with a round of even-par 288 on Tuesday.
 
Emily Mahar, a junior from Brisbane, Australia, tied for ninth place with a 1-under 215. She finished six strokes behind medalist Lorena Tseng of Tulsa.
 
Alyssa Montgomery, a freshman from Knoxville, Tennessee, tied for 30th with a 220 after a final round 3-under 69. Keera Foocharoen, a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand tied for 46th at 224. Jessica Spicer, a senior from Bahama, North Carolina, tied for 51st at 226 and Becca DiNunzio tied for 59th place at 229. Sarah Spicer, a redshirt junior from Bahama, North Carolina, played the tournament as an individual and tied for 65th at 232.
 
Kent State won the team title with a 10-under 854, seven strokes ahead of Purdue and 10 strokes ahead of Texas A&M. Top-ranked Texas was fourth at 866, TCU was fifth at 872 and North Texas was sixth at 873. Tulsa was seventh at 875, host Houston was eighth at 876 and Texas Tech was ninth at 880, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. SMU was 11th at 883, Kennesaw State was 12th at 895, Texas San Antonio was 13th at 899 and Texas State was 14th at 907.
 
The Hokies will be back on the course March 7-8, as they compete in the Gators Invitational, hosted by Florida in Gainesville, Florida.

MONDAY - Rounds 1 & 2

The Virginia Tech women's golf team has a two-round total of 594 and is in tenth place at the Icon Invitational on Monday. The two-day event is being played at the par 72, 6,392-yard Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club in The Woodlands, Texas.
 
Emily Mahar, a junior from Brisbane, Australia, is tied for second place with a 2-under 142. She is one of four players that are two strokes behind leader Sophie Guo of Texas. Mahar had a total of eight birdies in the first two rounds. 
 
Alyssa Montgomery, a freshman from Knoxville, Tennessee, is tied for 51st at 151. The trio of Keera Foocharoen, a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand, Jessica Spicer, a senior from Bahama, North Carolina and Becca DiNunzio, a freshman from Norfolk, Virginia, are all tied for 55th at 152. Sarah Spicer, a redshirt junior from Bahama, North Carolina, is playing the tournament as an individual and is tied for 67th at 156. 
 
Kent State and Purdue are tied for the team lead entering the final round. They each have a 1-over 577, one stroke ahead of TCU and two strokes ahead of Texas, the top-ranked team in the nation. Texas A&M is fifth at 581, host Houston is sixth at 585, North Texas is seventh at 586 and Tulsa and Texas Tech are tied for eighth at 589, five strokes ahead of the Hokies. Kennesaw State is 11that 595, SMU is 12that 598, Texas-San Antonio is 13that 600 and Texas State is 14that 606.
 
The final round will be played on Tuesday morning with an 8 a.m. CT (9 a.m. ET) shotgun start. The Hokies will be grouped with Kennesaw State and SMU, beginning on holes 11-14.
