The History - three of four in Blacksburg decided in walk-offs:

  • This will be the first of two meetings between the two teams and the 63rd in series history. Tech owns a 47-15 record all-time against the Highlanders and is 26-3 at home.
  • The Hokies have won two in a row overall and four straight at home - of which three have been walk-off victories. Last year, it was a two-run walk-off home run by Luke Horanski in the ninth that gave Tech the 8-7 victory, as Zach Brzykcy picked up his first collegiate win out of the bullpen.
  • In 2018, head coach John Szefc's first home game, Tech scored in the ninth to force extra innings and Jack Owens plated the game-winner on a squeeze play in the 12th for the 3-2 win.
  • In 2016, trailing 3-0 heading to the home half of the ninth, the Hokies scored three times, two on a Max Ponzurick home run and Matt Dauby tied it with a solo shot. The Hokies won it 4-3 in the 10th when Tom Stoffel scored on a Radford error.

Home Sweet Home for Hokies in February:

  • Since the 2010 season, Tech is now 9-2 in home openers and have won five straight after its 10-3 victory last Tuesday night over ETSU. In those five wins, the Hokies have outscored their opponents by a 40-8 count and have tossed two shutouts. The last time the Hokies lost a home opener in the month of February was in 2013, a 7-3 loss to Temple on Feb. 23.
  • Overall, in program history in February, Tech holds a 114-59 record (65.9%), but when it comes to playing in Blacksburg during the month, the team is far better.
  • The Hokies have posted a 28-3 record (90.3%) in home games played in the month. Tech has won 14 straight dating back to that 2013 home opener and included a program-tying best four wins last year (2009).
  • Lastly, Tuesday was the earliest home opener for the Hokies since their first ever season of baseball. Tech played Newports in Blacksburg on Feb. 2, 1892 and had not played a home game earlier then Feb. 21 before last year - which was a 9-3 win over ETSU on Feb. 19.

Seymour helps Tech secure series win at Louisiana:

  • Ian Seymour struck out 11 Louisiana batters over six innings in Sunday's rubber match at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park and the Hokies shut out the Ragin' Cajuns, 3-0, to take the road series and even its overall record.
  • Tech was dominant on the mound the entire weekend as the staff combined to allow just one earned run and strike out 41 batters in 26 total innings of work.
  • Seymour scattered two hits and a walk to improve his record to 2-0 on the year. The 11 strikeouts tied his career high, set last year at Miami (April 26 in 7.1 innings) and is the third time he's reached double figures in strikeouts in a start.
  • The win marked Tech's first shutout since April 9, 2019 versus Marshall, the last of three last season, and was the Hokies first road series win since at Pitt (March 15-17) last year.
  • For his effort, Seymour was named one of 15 Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week (link to release), as he struck out 17 batters over 9.0 frames in two starts last week. He was also named Tech's Athlete of the Week.
