GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Noah Zawadzki claimed bronze in the men's 1-meter on Thursday during the second day of competition at the 2020 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships.

Zawadzki finished seventh in the prelims after nailing his final dive of the round. In the finals, Zawadzki put together a consistent performance to claim the bronze medal with a score of 337.50.

On the swimming side, Joelle Vereb made the A final for the Hokies in the 50 freestyle. In the evening session she claimed sixth overall with an NCAA B cut time of 22.20. Anna Landon also made the finals for Tech, competing in the C heat to finish 21st with a mark of 22.71 (B). Freshman Sarah Shackelford finished just shy of making the finals, but did post a 22.87 in the prelims to move into ninth on the Tech record list.

Brooke Travis moved into Virginia Tech's 500 freestyle top-10 list after putting up a prelim time of 4:47.65. She made the B finals where she placed 15th (4:47.69). Loulou Vos made the C finals, turning in a 4:46.79 to improve her time at ninth on the top-10 list.

In addition to Zawadzki, the Hokies picked up points from all of their divers competing today. For the women on 3-meter, Teagan Moravek was 13th (248.00) while Izzi Mroz and Regan Westwood finished 19th (242.45) and 20th (240.40), respectively. Taj Cole was 20th (258.35) and Joseph Perreault was 22nd (254.45) to round out the men's side.

The Hokies will be back in the pool on Friday morning at 10 a.m. beginning with the prelims of 100 butterfly.

HEAD COACH SERGIO LOPEZ MIRO
"I think today was a pretty good day. We had a lot of good swims. Best times for Brooke this morning and pretty much the same time repeated this afternoon. It was good for her to be able to be in the top-16 at ACCs for the first time and get that experience. Her best event is the mile so we're looking for her to swim that very well. Loulou too in the 500 free. She had a not so good morning but was able to bounce back and go best time. Both of them were able to get times that were in the top-10 all-time and that's good for us as a freshman and a sophomore, so another step forward."

"In the 50 free we had Joelle who had a very good race in the morning and again tonight. She said she didn't have a good touch, but she was only three one-hundredths off her best time. Anna Landon got back into the finals as well and did a good job executing her race. I think overall it was a pretty good day."

"We are a very young team, no excuses but we are competing against some of the best teams in the country and I think we keep getting better."

DIVING COACH RON PIEMONTE
"Today was an excellent day for Noah. He fought his way into the finals by nailing his last dive to make the top-eight. Then he put together a great performance in the finals to earn the bronze medal. He led a Virginia Tech diving squad that all scored for the Hokies today."Gallery: (2/20/2020) 2020 ACC SWIMMING & DIVING THURSDAY
