Hokies prepare for 2020 Charleston Invitational

BLACKSBURG – After going 3-2 against top-25 competition last weekend at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational, Virginia Tech is set for its third tournament of the season at the Charleston Invitational in South Carolina.
 
The Hokies' (7-3) long weekend in South Carolina consists of matchups with Army (5-5), Dartmouth (0-0), Bradley (5-5), North Carolina A&T (1-6) and host College of Charleston (2-6).
 
The tournament will take place at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Weekend tickets can be purchased for $14, with tickets for children 18 years old and under sold at $6. A clear bag policy is in effect at Patriots Point this weekend.

Tech entered the rankings this week after its showing in Clearwater last weekend. The Hokies are ranked No. 24 by the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and No. 25 ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Poll.
 
Tech was led by center fielder Darby Trull, who went 7 for 17 with four RBIs in her five games in Florida. Freshman pitcher Kaylee Hewitt (3-0) picked up her first career win over a ranked opponent after she went six innings against No. 14/13 Minnesota.

Army rattled off a four-game winning streak earlier in the year, including victories over Georgia Southern and Hawaii.

Dartmouth begins its season at the Charleston Invitational against Tech. The Big Green were picked to finish fourth in the Ivy League preseason coaches' poll.

Bradley defeated fellow Charleston Invitational participant Army 12-2 last week.
 
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA A&T

NC A&T got their first win of the season last week with a 6-3 victory over Rhode Island.
 
SCOUTING COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON

College of Charleston got their two wins last weekend in Conway, S.C. vs. Jacksonville State and Delaware State.
